There are a number of issues that can cause a clogged drain, and they range from the simple and easy to remedy to more complex and in-depth problems. At Any Time Plumbing, we address any and all types of clogged and blocked drains, whether it’s for the shower, tub, sink, bathroom or kitchen, indoors or outside.
Clogged drains – There’s a few common things that cause a clogged drain and you’re probably familiar with the culprits if you’ve ever had to deal with one. The first is simply based on usage: hair, dirt, and grease are examples of things that can clog an otherwise working drain. These types of issues can generally be unclogged with simple measures like plunging or chemical treatments in most cases, though they can require more thorough methods over time.
Other clogs may be more serious, such as those caused by an obstruction in the plumbing, or a tree root that has impacted the functionality of the sewer drain. For more serious Santa Cruz drain clogs and root overgrowth, only a certified plumber should address the issue.
Here are the issues we tackle and services we provide for commercial and residential clients in Santa Cruz County:
For more serious drain issues, there are two main service options: snaking and hydro jetting. Snaking is something that most people are familiar with, especially if you’ve had to call out a plumber to deal with a clogged drain or backed up toilet.
A plumbing snake is a type of auger (sometimes also called a toilet jack) that is used to for more difficult clogs that can’t be addressed with just a plunger. The way it works is fairly simple: a coiled wire is sent down the drainage pipe, which is then rotated mechanically as it moves through and clears any obstruction.
Hydro jetting works similarly to snaking, except that a stream of high-pressure water is used in place of a rotating, physical coil. It can be a very effective method for removing buildup that occurs over time, such as sand and silt. Given that it is a precise and powerful tool, hydro jetting should only be done by a certified plumber. There is the risk of potential long-term damage if not done correctly.
Root intrusion occurs when tree roots spread to drains or pipes and can be a big problem. Once the process has started, serious structural damage can occur over time, especially if the issue isn’t properly addressed the first time. Once a root problem is detected, we use a camera inspection to determine the specific nature of the clog and then suggest the best course of action.
